Karuru Explains Halt In Leopards Contract Talks

One of Black Leopards' star players has explained why he has put contract talks with the club on hold.

Zimbabwean international Ovidy Karuru will see his deal with Lidoda Duvha coming to an end in June. The former Kaizer Chiefs attacker joined Leopards from Stellenbosch FC before the start of this season and has been one of Lidoda Duvha's key men, though the team has been struggling.

Leopards are currently bottom of the table on 12 points after 18 matches and Karuru has explained that he wants to focus on helping the team survive, before he can start talking about signing a new contract. He confirmed to the Siya crew that Leopards have expressed an interest in giving him a new deal.

The 32-year-old has scored six goals, and contributed with two assists, in all competitions.

"There's no option, but the chairman (David Thidiela) has been calling me. He wants me to sit down, but also as a player, who is ambitious and wants to play at the highest level, I said let us wait, so that we save the team first," Karuru tells the Siya crew.

"When we know that we are safe, then we can start talking about the contract. You can see I am still a valuable member of the national team of Zimbabwe, so it's going to be difficult if let's say I sign a contract and unfortunately the team does not survive. It will be difficult for me to leave the team because they would want to keep me, so that I can help the team get promotion again. So, for now, the main focus is to make sure that the team is safe before we doing any contract talks."
