Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyanyo claimed the African-Based Player of the Year award after his stellar performances while donning the Kabo Yellow colours in 2016.

The Ugandan shot-stopper helped the Brazilians claim the CAF Champions League title, Absa Premiership and Telkom Knockout titles in 2016.
Onyango was awarded the CAF African-Based Player of the Year award at tonight's ceremony, which took place in Abuja, Nigeria.
The three-man shortlist for the accolade consisted of Billiat, Denis Onyango and Rainford Kalaba. However, Billiat just missed out on the award as his teammate collected big on the continental stage.
Onyago claimed the award after receiving 252 votes, with Billiat finishing second in the voting with 228 votes, while Kalaba came in the third spot.
