Absa Premiership Report: Golden Arrows v Polokwane City 26 October 2019

Result: Golden Arrows 2-1 Polokwane City

Date: 26 OCtober 2019

Venue: Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium

Golden Arrows jumped up to fifth spot in the Absa Premiership standings after netting a late winner to sink Polokwane City at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium.

These sides met just seven days ago and went all the way to extra-time, where Arrows got the winning goal to advance in the Telkom Knockout.

Arrows got off to the perfect start when Mtshali's set-piece found Knox Mutizwa, who nodded past George Chigova at the far post for his fourth league goal of the season.

Rise and Shine nearly pulled themselves inside the first ten minutes, but Arrows shot-stopper Edmore Sibanda produced a superb save to deny Mngomezulu from close range.

Despite the fast start to the encounter, Arrows had to wait until the final 10 minutes of the half to carve out a couple more openings as Micheal Gumede and Mutizwa were denied by Chigova.

Rise and Shine came out firing in the second half and were rewarded for their pressure when Phiri found the equaliser two minutes after the hour mark.

The visitors then opted for a double change as Mohammed Anas and Charlton Mashumba made way for Walter Musona and Edgar Manaka for the final 20 minutes.

Both sides threw bodies forward in search of a winning goal in the latter stages, but it was Arrows who got the winner through Ntsako Neverdie Makhubela's close-range finish after reacting quickest to a rebound in the box.
