“Hunt Is Brave Enough To Sell Big Stars” – Reader’s Voice
Gavin Hunt won the league with Bidvest Wits in the same way he won it with SuperSport United. He sold the big names, or rather the most popular players from his team to other teams like ready-made food and after that, snatched the title when the so-called big teams were nursing big names.
In his first season at SuperSport United, Mr Hunt had this exciting player, Teko Modise, who could cut through defences like a knife through butter. But Hunt sold him to Pirates and just after Modise's departure, Matsatsantsa were crowned PSL champions.
Before the 2008/09 season, Mamelodi Sundowns come knocking for Hunt's top performers, Siboniso Gaxa and Katlego Mphela and after winning the championship again, but he got Anthony Laffor from Jomo Cosmos and he defended the title, even though he lost some of his stars to Downs. Orlando Pirates signed Daine Klate and Katlego Mashego and Hunt lost his power.
Last season, again Hunt showed that he is brave enough to sell big stars when he sold Sibusiso Vilakazi for big money to Sundowns, but, a season later, it is Hunt again who celebrated the title. Hunt’s strategy is to keep his players at a level where they can form a team and play as a team, rather than be disturbed by individuals.
Which stars do you think Hunt will sell in the next window? Does he believe in development or is he just lucky to get hard workers?
