Benni With Mourinho Brain To Outsmart PSL Coaches - Reader’s Voice

Cape Town City already claimed three victories against Bidvest Wits this season under the mentorship of the inexperienced Benni McCarthy.

The Citizens beat Wits twice in the MTN8 semi-finals and the other win over Gavin Hunt side was in the league. So far Benni has a 100% record after winning all of his games as head coach.

McCarthy has proven to be good in studying his opponents. Against Wits, his plan was to stop them from their wing play and avoid committing fouls around his 18yard as Wits are known to be dangerous in set-pieces. The Bafana’s all-time leading goal scorer mentioned that he knew it will be easy to hit Wits on the counter attack as he saw it as their weakness, while Gavin Hunt didn't see it coming.

Benni took out attacking midfielder Teko Modise for Gumede with only ten minutes left. That was a tactical change and a wise move to protect the lead. Jose Mourinho is famously known for his defensive approach and counter attack. The Special One believes on keeping it tight at the back and win at all costs. Benni played under Mourinho during his time at FC Porto. Without a doubt, McCarthy learnt two or three things from the man he regards as the best manager in the world.

Watch out for Benni, many PSL coaches will be sidelined this season because of the wise Benni. It’s just a matter of time before he lifts his first trophy as a coach.

Can Benni walk away with R8 million? Will Komphela survive Benni's magic in Cape Town or will he be the first coach to hit the road after losing to Cape Town City?

People are quick to blow horns for Bennie., he inherited Tinkler's team. As we know players like to impress new coaches. He is yet to impress technically as a coach. Good Luck to him.

I don't doubt Benni's ability but I fully agree with those saying its too early to tell. I say let's see him transforming City when chips are down, then give the guy the credits he deserves

@Danko Agreed. In my view come the end of the first leg of the season there will be a different story. The problem will begin tonight unfortunately with the ageing squad.
