Eric ‘Tower’ Mathoho has heaped praise on defensive partner, Rivaldo Coetzee, after he became Bafana Bafana’s youngest ever debutant.
Coetzee, 17, broke Aaron Mokoeona’s record as the youngest player to pull on the South African national team jersey in the 2-0 win over Congo this weekend, keeping a clean sheet with Mathoho by his side.
Speaking to Kaizer Chiefs’ official website, the Amakhosi defender was full of praise for the youngster, saying that they communicated well together.
Mathoho said, “Coetzee defended excellently and despite this being the first time we played together, we communicated nicely with each other and we were able to do the job. It was not bad at all, we combined well on the day.
“We were all happy. We bargained for a draw, but got the three points. Even more important was that we got these points away from home. The win has skyrocketed the spirit in the camp.”
The 24-year-old central defender sat out training today after picking up a mild concussion in the win over the Diables Rouges, but should be fit in time to face them again on home turf on Wednesday evening.
