Maritzburg United have confirmed the signing of former Ghana international, John Paintsil.
Soccer Laduma sources confirmed that he was training with Maritzburg while reports out of Ghana suggested that the player had penned a two-year deal with the Team of Choice.
Maritzburg have now confirmed the signing via their official Twitter account, saying: "The Team of Choice are proud to announce the Signing of Ghanaian, John Pantsil for the 2014 / 2015 PSL Season."
Paintsil, a versatile defensive midfielder, spent last season at Santos in the National First Division. The player boasts a good pedigree – he played for five seasons in the English Premiership from 2006 until 2011 before eventually signing for Santos in late 2013. The 88-cap Ghana international also played all five matches for his country during the 2010 World Cup.
Despite recent reports in the media claiming he had signed for Chippa United, the Team of Choice is the West African star’s next destination. Paintsil will join fellow Ghanaian counterpart, Mohammed Awal, at the Pietermaritzburg-based outfit.
