Why Masha Is Wearing Headgear…

Kaizer Chiefs defender Tefu Mashamaite wore protective headgear as he scored two goals past Polokwane City, in order to cover the injury he sustained against Bloemfontein Celtic.

‘Masha’ had to have stitches on his eyelid after a collision in the Celtic game and the protective headband was used in order to cover that wound and stop it from opening up again.

The 29-year-old won the Man of the Match award for the Amakhosi as they beat City 3-1 in the Telkom Knockout, scoring his first brace since he grabbed a double for Wits against Mamelodi Sundowns back in 2009.

Speaking to the club’s official website, he said that goalscoring defenders are part of the modern game of football.

He said, "It is not the first time I've scored a brace but each time you score as a defender it becomes special. This is a modern game where everyone in the team is a potential goal scorer. I don't only think about defending, I visualize scoring goals also.

“I am glad to contribute to the success of the Kaizer Chiefs family. Soccer is a project and I am happy to see my progress. There are still areas that need polishing but so far so good. I hope to improve and look forward to happier moments going forward.

"I am happy to hear people saying I have a penchant for goals when I play in my home town of Polokwane. I appreciate that but I would like to be seen scoring goals anywhere we play.

"I am humbled and would like to thank my teammates for the teamwork. I will be happy when we start to hit the right zone and once we get to the tempo that saw us win league and cup double last season.”

Chiefs’ next game is the friendly encounter with Celtic in the Macufe Cup this weekend and they will find out their TKO quarterfinal opponents in the cup draw later this evening.
