Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper, Itumeleng Khune, is highly unlikely to recover from injury in time for Saturday’s CAF Champions League game v AS Vita.
The 26-year-old has missed a number of the Amakhosi’s games since picking up an ankle injury earlier this year, with Reyaad Pieterse stepping up to fill his gap between the sticks.
While the young goalkeeper has performed well when called upon by Stuart Baxter, he conceded three goals against AS Vita this weekend as Chiefs’ failed to capitalise on any of their chances and lost 3-0.
Up until recently, Khune had been wearing a protective boot as he recovered from his injury, and while the boot has now been removed, he is still expected to face at least another week on the sidelines.
Khune, whom some had hope would make the CCL clash, tweeted yesterday saying, “I'm recovering good people. Thanx a lot for all your prayers.”
The shot-stopper has visited the doctor twice recently in order to gauge the recovery time of his injury, though there has been no public confirmation of just how much longer he will face on the sidelines.
