While Kaizer Chiefs say that their midfielder, George Lebese, handed himself to police this week, the authorities say that they had to track him down themselves.

Lebese is currently embroiled in a situation that sees him accused of both assault and malicious damage to property following an incident at the weekend, and he is set to appear in court over the next couple of days.
A statement from the Amakhosi said that “the player has handed himself over to the relevant authorities and the matter is being attended to”, however that differs to the police’s version of events.
Speaking to Udo Carelse on Talk 702 last night, Lieutenant Kay Makhubela said, “Since Sunday we have been chasing for him, and this afternoon (Tuesday) we managed to locate him and he was arrested.
“He was on the run from us and we only found him today (Tuesday). He didn’t hand himself over, we phoned him and made an appointment with him, that’s when we arrested him and took him to the police station.
“His first appearance in court will be soon, he faces charges of malicious damage to property as well as assault.
“He can make arrangements for bail, it’s within his rights, but as far as we know he’s still in custody of the police.”
Lebese could now face a tough few days as the case goes to court, and both him and his club will be hoping that he is proven not guilty of the crimes he is accused of.
