Free State Stars defender, Daniel Cardoso, has been ruled out of competitive football action until at least in August. The centre back, who is one of the most important players in the current Ea Lla Koto squad, picked up a shin injury.
According to Siya sources at the club, the 25-year-old went for surgery to try and fix the injury ahead of the upcoming season. The talented player has been unlucky with injuries in recent times.
The hard-working Johannesburg-born player spent the entire first half of the previous season on the side-lines owing to an injury. Cardoso’s 2013/14 campaign only began in February at which time Stars were already fighting relegation at the bottom of the Absa Premiership standings.
He also contributed impressive performances that helped the Bethlehem-based side retain their PSL status at the end of the campaign.
Cardoso has been offered an improved contract by the club and was made the team’s vice captain as a sign of appreciation for his dedication and hard work.
Stars’ newly-appointed Belgian coach, Tom Saintfiet, will be hoping for the player’s early return before the beginning of the 2014/15 season to boost the team’s chances for an impressive start in the new campaign.
