Stellenbosch FC head coach, Steve Barker has discussed how his side wants to add to Kaizer Chiefs’ woes following their cup exit at the weekend.
Stellenbosch will host Chiefs at the Cape Town Stadium this evening, with the Soweto side coming off the back of a disappointing exit in the Telkom Knockout competition.
“If I was the coach of Chiefs I would be really working on the mentality side of things, they have to get past the cup defeat, the important part is the league to remind them that they are at a very strong position in the league and another victory for them would just keep that gap, so I am sure that they are going to be really fired up for the occasion,” Barker said ahead of the game.
“I don’t expect anything less than a fired up Kaizer Chiefs but they are going to come up against a very fired up Stellenbosch.
“They have good link up play, they’ve got good qualities, we all know about (Khama) Billiat and (Lebogang) Manyama, good quality players and in their attack they’ve got (Leonardo) Castro and (Samir) Nurkovic; good, strong, physical strikers, good with their feet and good aerially.
“Their combination plays can cause you problems if you don’t deal with it but we have worked on that, we know their strengths and it is quite clear the way they play, they look more direct which a normal Kaizer Chiefs team would look but they also play when they need to play.
“It is a lot of work that we need to do defensively, but I also believe that we can ask them questions defensively and see how they cope with it after Sunday. We are hoping to add to their woes,” he added.
