Royal AM have outwitted their more esteemed counterparts to claim their first big prize of the season.
The ‘Spice People’ have been one of the most consistent teams this season, and it came as very little surprise as they were confirmed as DSTV Premiership Q-Innovation Quarter three winners by virtue of netting one more goal than their closest rivals Cape Town City.
Second-placed Royal AM beat the third-placed Citizens to the R1.5 million prize money.
Both sides managed a similar haul of points in the eight-match period and enjoyed the same goal difference: However, it was a solitary goal that separated the two sides. Royal AM managed to score 13 goals, one more than Eric Tinkler’s City on 12.
Coach John Maduka’s men managed five wins from eight games, drawing two of those with just one loss.
Striker Victor Letsoalo has been the key man for the KZN-based side during this period, scoring four goals. The likes of new recruit Mxolisi Macuphu also contributed with important goals for the club. Royal AM will be hoping to maintain their second place on the DStv Premiership standings which will ensure a maiden CAF Champions League spot next season.
