Soccer Laduma broke the story earlier this month that Amakhosi, who are gearing up for a squad overhaul at the end of the season, had opened talks with the Dube Birds to get the 31-year-old to make the switch to Naturena.
It is also understood that the deal will involve a swap deal – Chiefs are set to offload several players in June and Swallows are expected to give some of them a new lease on life and a completely fresh start.
News that Amakhosi were interested in Gamildien came as a shock to the football fraternity given his age and some also questioned whether he was Chiefs material.
But the player has recently been recalled to the Bafana Bafana squad for the first time since 2013 and is second in the DStv Premiership scoring charts behind Bradley Grobler with 11 goals from 20 games in all competitions.
He is now clearly a priority signing for Chiefs and could very well be part of Gavin Hunt’s new-look squad next season.
Amakhosi are also still keen on signing defender Njabulo Ngcobo, another player who has enjoyed a stellar campaign at Swallows.
But official word from the club will only come closer to the end of the season or when the FIFA ban is finally lifted on July 1.
