A potential signing for Orlando Pirates has been identified in an in-form winger, who has been impressive for his team this season.
Moeketsi Makhanya has been in top form for JDR Stars in GladAfrica Championship in their first season in South Africa’s second tier league, which has resulted in Absa Premiership clubs chasing his signature.
Orlando Pirates – as reported in edition 1146 of Soccer Laduma – have emerged as favourites to sign the winger.
After helping JDR to promotion through the ABC Motsepe League’s play-offs, Makhanya has continued with that form this campaign, and helping JDR to be one of the early candidates for automatic promotion to the top flight this season.
After being linked with Cape Town City and AmaZulu FC, the player has now made it onto the Buccaneers’ radar.
“Pirates is interested in Moeketsi Makhanya of JDR Stars, with the club keen on offering him a contract,” confirmed the source.
“You must remember that Makhanya is the same player that finished as the top goalscorer in the Vodacom (ABC Motsepe) League with JDR Stars when they were promoted to the NFD (now GladAfrica Championship). He was also the best player of the play-offs. He is not even a striker but a winger. Pirates is showing serious interest in him. There are other PSL clubs interested in the boy, but Pirates is leading the race for now for his services,” the source added.
