Sundowns Beat Chiefs To Snap Up 29-Goal Star

Mamelodi Sundowns have completed their fourth signing, according to reports.

The January transfer window slammed shut on Monday evening but not before Sundowns managed to complete the signing of Ethiopian international, Abubeker Nasir.

The 21-year-old had been on trial with the Brazilians for the last two weeks and is said to have impressed the club’s technical team during that period where he formed part of their mid-season preparations in Rustenburg.

Despite Downs co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi refusing to comment on the matter when quizzed about it on Tuesday, news coming out of Ethiopia is that Nasir has put pen to paper on a long-term deal with Chloorkop-based outfit, and will be loaned back to his club Ethiopian Coffee until the end of the 2021/22 season.

“Abubeker is officially a Mamelodi Sundowns player. He will return to Addis Ababa and play for Coffee then return in Johannesburg in four months’ time,” read a statement from Ethiopian Coffee According to Blue Nile Sport.

It was the forward’s 29 goals in 23 Ethiopian Premier League games last season that had put teams including Kaizer Chiefs on high alert, but it was Sundowns who ultimately won the race for his signature.

Nasir becomes the Brazilians’ fourth signing following the arrivals of Surprise Ralani, Teboho Mokoena and Erwin Saavedra, who is yet to be unveiled by the club.
