Kaizer Chiefs will have vengeance on their minds when they host their most recent tormentors in the CAF Champions League group stages.
Wydad travel to the FNB Stadium already through to the next phase of the continental competition, but the fact that they humiliated Amakhosi 4-0 the last time the two sides met in Burkina Faso, a neutral venue, the Morocco side is favourites.
It’s a game Chiefs cannot afford to lose, though they will still have a fighting chance in their last game away to Horoya AC even if they do.
Chiefs began their group stage opener at home against the side from Guinea at the same venue where they will welcome Wydad, but only managed to get a point before being completely outclassed by the North Africans a few weeks later.
Their domestic run of form has also been poor, with coach Gavin Hunt under pressure to turn things around quickly.
A Soweto Derby win prior to the international break gave the four-time league winning mentor some breathing room, ending a run seven matches without victory in both the DStv Premiership and Nedbank Cup.
He’s expected to at least aim to get past the group stages, while a Top 8 finish is non-negotiable for Hunt, otherwise he could very well be relieved of his duties.
Chiefs take on Wydad at 18:00 on Saturday.
