Gavin Hunt has confirmed that Kaizer Chiefs will be without one of their influential players when they face rivals Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby this weekend.
The two sides face off for the third time this season in the first of their two DStv Premiership fixtures for the 2020/21 season – Hunt suffered a humiliating 5-0 aggregate defeat in their two-legged tie in the MTN8 semifinals late last year.
Pirates went on to win the cup.
Now, with the coach gearing up for another clash with the archrivals at Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon, he told the media Ramahlwe Mphahlele would miss out.
The defender, who has been the club’s stand-in captain in the absence of Itumeleng Khune and Willard Katsande, limped off injured a week ago when Chiefs beat TTM 3-0 at FNB Stadium – he was substituted after 15 minutes.
It’s understood he is struggling to shake off a hamstring injury that’s meant he could not feature in Chiefs’ trip to Stellenbosch FC at the weekend and when they hosted Baroka FC on Tuesday night in the league.
He is now also expected to miss the Soweto Derby.
“Rama has had a decent season so far, so that has been a bit of a blow because that is an area where I don’t really want to change things. We’ve had to change it the last two games and it affected us – he’s been a blow,” Hunt told journalists.
