Kaizer Chiefs and Gavin Hunt have finally agreed a deal for the four-time league winning coach to replace Ernst Middendorp in the hot seat - and he's expected to start work on Monday.
It’s believed the Glamour Boys beat Orlando Pirates to the highly-rated coach’s signature after he became unattached following the sale of his previous employers, Bidvest Wits, to businessman Masala Mulaudzi.
Hunt has signed a three-year contract and takes over from Middendorp, who was allowed to leave last week despite still having a season left on his contract at Naturena.
The Siya crew first reported on talks between Chiefs and Hunt on June 3, this becoming the coach’s big opportunity to finally be at the helm of one of South Africa’s Big Three clubs after stints at Hellenic, Black Leopards, Moroka Swallows, SuperSport United and of course Wits, where he ended the club’s title drought after 96 years.
Hunt has since been announced by the Glamour Boys, to much fanfare, as the club hopes to turn the corner in their quest for trophies.
Hunt has his work cut out at Naturena with the task to end their struggle to win silverware over the last five years is expected to meet the players on Monday, September 21, when his journey takes off at the village.
But he could be forced to do so without being able to sign any new players as Chiefs wait to hear back from the Court of Arbitration for Sport on their appeal to have the two-window FIFA ban overturned.
