Experienced football administrator, Peter Koutroulis, has weighed in on the talk in the fraternity that Kaizer Chiefs should be handed the Absa Premiership title if the season ends as it is.
While the league is yet to give another update about the resumption of the 2019/20 season, some reports have suggested that the league might be cancelled although there has been no official word from the authorities.
“I think the PSL has done everything but what I can see is that between them and SAFA – I don’t know how their communication is – but for me what is happening is very bad. As far as I know the PSL gave the deadline on when the season should finish but SAFA said the league should resume on 01 August. But how the remaining eight or so games for clubs will be finished by the end of August if the league will only resume at the beginning of the month? There’s also the Nedbank Cup games still to be played. Let’s also not forget about the financial side of things, as some clubs can’t afford to pay R1 million per club to come to Johannesburg. That’s a lot of money for clubs – some of them,” Koutroulis told the Siya crew.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United official says as the log leaders, Chiefs would be the deserving recipients of the trophy if the season is discontinued.
“For me, the best thing if the PSL can’t afford all these things, it must stop the league and give Kaizer Chiefs the trophy and must promote Ajax from the NFD and that’s it,” he said.
