According to reliable Siya sources, Swallows are understood to have made a U-turn on a player who was expected to join them from Mamelodi Sundowns even after he was pictured in their team photo.
Sammy Seabi last week appeared to be part of the Dube Birds’ squad for the 2021/22 season along with several other new signings, although his jersey number had not been confirmed.
The midfielder spent the previous campaign on loan at Swallows from Chloorkop and it was thought he would join them permanently this time around.
In the latest edition of Soccer Laduma, published today, the Dube Birds team manager Elasto Kapowezha is quoted telling the Siya crew to ask Sundowns about the player’s future.
He did not reveal any more than that.
Word reaching the crew now is that Seabi is no longer in camp with Swallows ahead of their DStv Premiership opener against Royal AM, who purchased the topflight status of Bloemfontein Celtic, this weekend.
Indications are that Seabi may join Chippa United on loan, though further details remain sketchy concerning the nature of the deal.
Chippa face Sekhukhune in their league opener on Saturday, in what will be Gavin Hunt’s first official match since he was appointed.
The domestic transfer window will close on August 31 and it remains to be seen whether Seabi would have secured a move by then, but it appears Swallows are no longer an option.
