It’s been confirmed to the Siya crew that there’s an update on the status of Bradley Grobler’s contract at SuperSport United, which could affect a potential move to Kaizer Chiefs.
“I’m very happy to say that we have entered into a new two-year agreement with Bradley,” Stan Matthews, the SSU chief executive officer, confirmed.
“As our all-time leading goalscorer and current DStv Premiership Golden Boot winner, he is central to our attacking aspirations next season. He told me yesterday that he feels he can go past 20 goals next season and if you consider the games he missed this year then he has a real chance of doing that. He certainly is at the top of his game right now and has made us very proud with his achievements.”
The news may very well come as a big blow for Chiefs, who had shown interest in Grobler at the start of the season prior to their failed bid to have the two-window transfer ban imposed by world governing body FIFA overturned.
According to sources at Naturena, the Glamour Boys were still assessing whether to reignite their pursuit of the Bafana Bafana striker yet again now that the sanction will officially be lifted from the start of next month.
But with coach Gavin Hunt sacked, the interest might have cooled off, though Stuart Baxter, who is lined up as his replacement, has also previously worked with Grobler and is understood to be a huge admirer.
The decision by SSU to extend his contract now means any potential suitor will have to pay a massive fee to get the deal over the line.
Will Chiefs budge?
