Mayambela, 4 Others Amongst Major Changes And Exits At City

Cape Town City are expected to make decisions about the immediate futures of some big name players in the team including Mark Mayambela and Riyaad Norodien.

In the past three seasons, City have not finished any lower than fifth on the Absa Premiership league standings and compared to where they are now, it is normal for the club to be in a bit of a panic.

The team’s overall morale has taken quite a knock after spending most of the season floating around the relegation zone, and it’s been a big challenge for Jan Olde Riekerink to get the team back on track.

However, according to Siya sources, management are now set to do some ‘damage control’ in the current January transfer window, with some big name players set to meet with the chairman, John Comitis, in the coming days.

The source added that Norodien is the most likely to head out the exit door at the Citizens, while Mayambela, Siphelele Mthembu, Craig David and Shaquille Abrahams’s futures at the club are also uncertain.

Abrahams has already been sent out om loan for the rest of the season, with Cape Umoya United adding him to their roster.

Meanwhile, Mthembu will see his contract with City come to an end on June 30, with management set to decide whether or not he will remain at the club beyond the current season.

Mayambela, who just joined City in October last year, has fallen low down the pecking order under the new head coach, having been left out of the squad in their previous four league fixtures, seeing his immediate future currently up in the air, although City are expected to make a decision in the coming days.

On the other hand, David, who has made the squad ever since his return from injury, where he’s featured in five fixtures in a row before last weekend’s clash against Bidvest Wits, is also set to have his immediate future discussed, this according to Siya sources.

Meanwhile, former AmaZulu FC defender, Tshepo Gumede is training with the Mother City-based club, with it likely that he could land himself a deal at the club in the coming weeks.
