SuperSport United talisman Bradley Grobler has opened up about his flourishing strike partnership with Thamsanqa Gabuza, that started with a midnight phone call.
Matsatsantsa currently sit pretty in third position on the DStv Premiership standings, a large part of that is down to the partnership of Gabuza and Grobler, who have contributed a combined 15 goals for the Tshwane outfit this season.
To put that into perspective, SuperSport have scored just 19 league goals this campaign.
Speaking exclusively to the Siya crew, Grobler, who recently surpassed Abram Raselemane as the club’s all-time top goal scorer opened up on his excitement two seasons ago, when he received a phone call at midnight that ‘’Ghanda-Ghanda’ was on his way.
“From the first day when he arrived, when Mr. Stan Matthews phoned me, I think it was maybe 11 or 12 o'clock, one night to tell me that, you know, he's considering bringing Gabuza to the team. I think from that moment, I was very excited,” Grobler tells the crew.
“You know, obviously, being a striker and playing against him. I'd watched him for many years and always rated him very highly. unfortunately, you know, you miss a couple of chances, and people kind of, you know, give you a reputation and, and it sticks with you. And for me, his work rate is unbelievable. His attitude is unbelievable. And I always knew that about him, since he's come in, you I can't question any of that. I think he's been unbelievably good for us. I think, for me, as a striker, he’s been unbelievable to have as a partner, I think we compliment each other very well.
Grobler has lauded Gabuza for reducing some of his workload, which has resulted in the striker being able to find himself in more promising positions as opposed to doing all the yardwork by himself.
“You know, I think we take some of the work load off each other where Before I kind of had to do all the holding up of the ball. And whereas now we can balance it and he can do that he does that extremely well, for us. So yeah, I mean, there's so many things I could say about him, but I just think he's been not only a great signing on the field, but off the field as well. He’s a great guy to have in the change room. And everybody loves him. Everyone gets along with him. So, all around, it's just, it's just a real team player and a great guy to have,” Grobler added.
