Celtic Issue Crucial Update In Sundowns Case

Bloemfontein Celtic have issued a crucial update following their case against Mamelodi Sundowns after the Nedbank Cup final.

Celtic have lodged a complaint with the league after Sundowns named Tebogo Langerman on the substitutes bench despite the player being ineligible for the match.

Langerman picked up four yellow cards prior to the final and was suspended for the final match of the season. The Siya crew was informed that Celtic requested that the league not hand over the trophy to the Brazilians after their 1-0 win, but the request was dismissed.

Now, Celtic have provided an update on the matter via their social media channels.

“Our case against Mamelodi Sundowns has been referred to urgent arbitration. The club will announce the date once it is confirmed by the league,” the statement read.

According to the communication from Celtic, the matter has been referred to SAFA for arbitration and is no longer with the Premier Soccer League. Furthermore, the two clubs need to argree to who the arbitrator on the matter will be, the sooner this is done- the quicker a sitting can be scheduled and judgement delivered.

Siya sources at the Premier Soccer League have previously indicated that the Brazilians could face disciplinary action for including the suspended player in the squad.

However, the PSL Disciplinary Committee could only hand Sundowns a fine as the game was not played under protest as Celtic only lodged their appeal after the final whistle.
