Benni: The Task At Hand Is Very Tough

AmaZulu take aim at Mamelodi Sundowns in search of their first win of the season after their disappointment in the MTN8 in the first match of the season.

Following their exit from the MTN8 after losing 2-1 against Cape Town City on the weekend, AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy says his side will aim to bounce back at the expense of Sundowns in their league opener on Friday at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

“I think in football you have to play the best in the business whether it’s your first game or your last game or your middle game and be able to do well. You have to play all the tough ones and unfortunately for us it’s the team that won the league and we finished second. We play our opening match against each other, I think we had a decent preparation now, we had far less interruptions and the players that came back from injuries and from self-isolating have all been integrated with the team. So, it was just to try and get them all up to speed in terms of fitness levels and that,” said McCarthy, speaking through the club’s media department.

“We need to bounce back from our defeat against City that we had over the weekend. There are some good qualities and the boys looked really up for the challenge and we know that it’s going to be an interesting and very difficult match. Sundowns, like I said, they were the champions last season, so they didn’t lose that much of their championship team, and they have only added more quality players to the team. The task at hand is very tough but we don’t shy away from that. We just prepare ourselves the best way possible we can, and we hope that the players will be up for the fight,” the coach said.
