Swallows coach Brandon Truter has confirmed a total of 13 new players at the club, while also explaining why George Lebese was not signed.
The ex-Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns attacker spent some time at the Dube Birds being assessed after he became a free agent.
But in the end the decision was taken not to sign him, with Truter giving journalists the reasons why.
“Let me first say George is a top quality player,” the coach, speaking ahead of the MTN8 quarterfinals clash against Orlando Pirates on Saturday, said.
“But unfortunately, and I wouldn’t say we didn’t reach an agreement because we didn’t even get to the negotiations. We had to get the right players in the right positions as well as the right characteristics as well. George’s style of play didn’t fit to the Swallows way - and we need to look at the club first before we consider any individual.”
Truter argued that had it not been for the need to reinforce certain departments then Lebese would be a Swallows player.
“Any other day I would take George in my team. You can be the best player, but if it affects the make up of the team and the whole squad, then I would rather sign for the team than an individual. He was good when he was here, but we have a certain philosophy at Swallows, and that is non-negotiable. He is a great personality as well, but it wasn’t the time for George to be here,” Truter added.
The coach took a team photo along with the 13 new arrivals this week and it was posted on social media from the club's official account.
During the same press conference, he also confirmed that Orlando Pirates loanees Austin Muwowo and Monnapule Salinge will be allowed to face their parent club.
Truter admitted it would take time to get everyone used to "the way we play", but vowed the Dube Birds will be no pushovers this season.
