Last week 12 goals hit the back of the net in Round One of Varsity Football, but Round Two was to see 16 goals netted across the four matches.
TUT got proceedings underway as UFH hosted the defending champions. A cracking Themba Ndlovu strike from 20 metres out stole the show as TUT ran riot, putting seven past UFH to earn three points and remain undefeated early in the 2017 season.
NWU were too strong for a Wits side that has leaked 11 goals in just two matches. The NWU crowd were roaring as their team put four past Wits in a match that ended 4-1. Wendelle Martin’s volleyed effort rocketing into the top left corner the moment of the match.
CUT managed to keep out UWC, who scored six unanswered goals last week, as they made it two wins from two with a 2-1 victory. UWC pulled a goal back through Josh Silent, but the home side held strong.
In the biggest upset of the night, UJ beat Tuks 1-0 in Pretoria thanks to a Tebogo Mandyu penalty. UJ goalkeeper Damaine van der Walt earning the man of the match award for his string of saves, keeping out dead ball specialist Jeremiah Nkwana on multiple occasions.
NWU and CUT top the log with a full possible six points, while Wits and UFH make up the bottom, yet to get off the mark.
