The Varsity Football 2018 season opener between North-West University and the University of Western Cape is set to kick off the tournament in spectacular fashion.
Both sets of teams have hugely exciting players, while UWC will also be seeking revenge after losing to NWU in the recent USSA championships in Port Elizabeth.
Soccer Laduma takes a look at players who could make a difference for their respective teams.
Wendelle Martin (NWU)
North West have entrusted the leadership reins in Wendelle Martin after a spectacular 2017 season and he will no doubt be a threat in the air for NWU.
Tylo Miller (UWC)
UWC have bolstered their ranks with the signing of classy Ajax Cape Town defender, Tylo Miller to address the issues that have plagued them on the road in recent seasons. Miller also has experience playing for the South Africa U/20 team and should be a great asset to the Bushies.
Aiden Leak (UWC)
Miller's Ajax Cape Town teammate, Aiden Leak has also joined UWC for their 2018 Varsity Football season. The lanky player is fresh from a return from the Netherlands with the Ajax Cape Town youth teams, where he impressed former Urban Warriors coach, Foppe de Haan. He will be hoping to bring his experience to the 2018 tournament.
