UWC Coach Salie Adams Tips Tuks For Varsity Football Title
UWC coach Salie Adams believes UP-Tuks will have the edge over city rivals Tshwane of Technology in the much-anticipated Varsity Football final on Thursday.
Adams’s team lost out on a place in the final last week when Tuks downed them 3-1 in the first semi-final. UWC scored in the first minute, but the former two-time champions stormed back to book their spot.
TUT, meanwhile, after going through unbeaten in the league stages were reduced to 10-men in their semi-final against the Central University of Technology and only managed to eventually scrape through on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.
“From what I have seen over the past few games, I am putting my chickens on Tuks winning the final,” Adams said. “Tuks just need to get their selection right and they will be right up there. It is going to be a tight game.
“I think TUT are on a bit of spiral, and it is not an upward one. They were lucky to get through to the final. I know they had a player sent off, but CUT dominated that game. Tuks have the quality to beat them.”
Adams also believes his team will come back stronger after their semi-final exit this season.
“We learnt plenty of lessons. Sometimes you don’t expect to score early and these young players don’t know how to manage the rest of the game.
“We tried to go forward all the time and lost possession in crucial areas of the field. I tried to get the team to keep the ball for longer but the boys will learn and we will back,” Adams added.
