UJ Off To Blazing Start And Goals Galore In Varsity Football Round One

Varsity Football got off to a blazing start, with all eight teams scoring, and not one stalemate transpiring in Round One of fixtures.
With no draws in the first game of the season we see four teams claiming wins and four with defeats, meaning the log is split down the middle with only UJ gaining an advantage after their 7-1 victory over UL, with every other team only winning by one goal.
Game 1: NWU noble boys pip UWC in Mahikeng
North-West University (NWU) delivered a solid performance to defeat the traveling University of Western Cape (UWC) 2-1 at the NWU-Mafikeng Stadium. It was a game played at pace, with the men from Cape Town unable to shirk their bad-travelers tag.
NWU sharp-shooters Tshepo Baholo and Lebohang Phetlhu both netted their first goals of the tournament.
NWU: 2
Goals: Tshepo Baholo, Lebohang Phetlhu
UWC: 1
Goals: Simphiwe Mqandu
Game 2: TUT stun defending champions
TUT (Tshwane University of Technology) out-maneuvered their Capital opponents, the University of Pretoria, 2-1 in a match where TUT made better use of their chances and space at the Tuks Football Stadium on Monday evening.
The visitors scored in the first ten minutes through the electric Lebogang Phatlane, which seemed to shell shock the defending champions before the fleet-footed Phatlane danced around the opposition in the second half, once again, to start their season with a victory.
UP-Tuks: 1
Goal: Mabaso
TUT: 2
Goals: Phatlane (2)
Game 3: UJ run rampant as they see off University of Limpopo
UJ (University of Johannesburg) put UL (University of Limpopo) to the sword with the men from Jozi beating their Northern rivals 7-1 at the UJ Soweto Campus Stadium on Thursday evening.
The University of Limpopo made its first appearance in Varsity Football since being relegated in 2014 and it's not the way the men in baby blue would have wanted it to start.
O’Neil Hendricks, Karl Clements and Pogiso Mabote all scored with Mokete Mogaila and Tebogo Mnyandu each grabbing a brace, as the Orange Army dismantled their opponents. UL were able to at least get on the score board with Freddy Matheba scoring his first goal in Varsity Football 2018.
UJ: 7
Goals: O’Neil Hendricks, Mokete Mogaila (2), Tebogo Mnyandu (2), Karl Clements, Pogiso Mabote
UL: 1
Goals: Freddy Matheba
Game 4: Wits win in five-goal thriller
Wits (Wits University) were just able to defeat a spirited UKZN (University of KwaZulu-Natal) side, 3-2 in Durban on Monday evening.
The men from Johannesburg deprived the newcomers of their Varsity Football debut victory. UKZN scored the first goal through Nkosinathi Sibeko, and looked as though they were in the driver's seat before Wits came back through three consecutive goals with Sandile Mbatha, Mahlolo Mphahlele and Baliwe Moyakhe all getting on the score sheet.
UKZN wouldn't let Wits run away with the game though and showed some fight back to net their second through Nqubeko Dlamini, making the score 3-2.
Goals: Nkosinathi Sibeko, Nqubeko Dlamini
Wits: 3
Goals: Sandile Mbatha, Mahlolo Mphahlele, Baliwe Moyakhe
