Wits To Host TUT In Varsity Football Final

TUT defy the odds to reach final

TUT vanquished their Tshwane rivals UP-Tuks 1-0 at the Tuks Stadium to reach the Varsity Football final.

A solitary pearler from TUT captain Elliot Seema saw his side being able squeeze past the home side.

The first half got off to an electric start with the visitors managing to unlock the UP-Tuks defence every time they surged up-field. Unfortunately for TUT they were unable to claim a goal in the first half which would end 0-0.

The second half seemed like a far more even affair with UP-Tuks looking lethal with the ball, typified by a perfectly weighted cross to Dylan Murchie, with the forward just missing the opportunity to capitalise.

TUT would seal their place in the final after one of the TUT players lobbed the ball into the box with Seema timing his shot perfectly for the ball to bend round the UP-Tuks keeper.

TUT will now travel to Johannesburg to take on Wits at the Wits Stadium on 27 September.

Carelse sends Wits to first Varsity Football final

Wits goalkeeper Matthew Carelse saved everything UJ threw at him as Wits defeated UJ 4-3 on penalties to go to the Varsity Football final.

The first half was a battle of attrition between the two sides. UJ did all they could to get past the Wits defence, but the blue wall remained impenetrate.

The second half heated up though when UJ star Makete Mogaila was brought down in the Wits box with the Orange Army being awarded a penalty. UJ's Karl Clements stepped up to the plate and shot left but, the ever-vigilant Wits goal keeper Carelse saved the ball with an outstretched glove.

Both teams struggled to score in the dying moments of the game with the game going to only two minutes for extra time.

The scintillating fixture went to penalty shoot outs. UJ started off well but the eventual Man of the Match Carelse was incredible in the goals and saved two UJ shots.

Wits will host TUT at the WIts Stadium on 27 September for the Varsity Football final.

UJ: (Penalties) Nkosinathi Sibiya, Alan Mabuza, O'Neil Hendriks
