UJ Can Go All The Way

The University of Johannesburg head into the 2016 Varsity Football Final with the chance of redemption following their runners-up finish in the 2014 edition of the competition.

UJ will travel to Pretoria this time around to face a highly confident Tshwane University of Technology for the title on September 22. Neither side has won the title yet, despite having played in the final match of the competition before.

Here is why UJ will win the title!

Good travellers

UJ have played just three of their eight matches on their home venue. Of the five they have played away from home, they picked up three victories, one draw and a solitary loss. That is a very impressive away record.

They have tasted defeat

Unlike their opponents in the Final, UJ has had to endure the feeling of defeat. Losses to UP-Tuks and UWC would have had a psychological effect on them and could be the driving force behind to claiming the title.

Previous Final experience

In addition to their losses this season, UJ knows the feeling of reaching the Final and not going all the way. In their debut season back in 2014, they came up against Tuks in the championship match and suffered a been in the final in 2014 which they lost to UP-Tuks 0-1.

Unpredictability

The Johannesburg students had a constant trend throughout their round robin campaign, a level of inconsistency. That makes them all the more dangerous as no-one can predict which UJ side will show up for the match.

Hitting the peak

They may have been inconsistent through the campaign, however, they have found the recipe that ensured they are able to peak at the right time. Two victories in the final rounds of matches and a semifinal victory sees them come into the Final on the back of a three-match winning streak.
