UP-Tuks Captain Not Daunted By Mafikeng Visit
UP-Tuks captain Lawrence Ntswane believes his team will not be daunted by the prospect of visiting arguably the most passionate venue in Varsity Football on Thursday.
Tuks are set to face league-leaders North West University at what is likely be to another capacity crowd at Mafikeng Stadium. Spectators have turned out in their thousands every week to support the home team, which has really created an intimidating atmosphere for the visitors.
“Obviously playing away from is not an easy task, but it will not be the first time we’re going to Mafikeng. Our record away from home in Mafikeng is actually quite good and we’ll draw plenty of positives from that,” Ntswane said.
The UP-Tuks skipper certainly can’t be distracted by outside factors for his team have to register a victory in 2017 after a tough start to the season. Tuks were moments away of defeating defending champions before Themba Ndlovu rifled home a last-ditch equaliser from a free kick.
But such is the experience within the two-times champions’ squad that Ntswane believes his team can turnaround their fortunes, starting with Thursday’s clash against NWU.
“It is not a worrying factor that we haven’t won yet. We’ve been here before and come back strongly. It is certainly not done and dusted. There are five more games to play and 15 points on offer,” Ntswane explained.
“The mood in the camp is certainly not doom and gloom. The boys are still hyped up and the morale is good.”
Ntswane also remains confident that with a full-fit squad that UP-Tuks have that they can collect all three points on offer in Mafikeng.
