TUT Arrived The Hard Way

TUT's journey to this year's final has not been an easy one and they will do well to draw on their hardships in this tournament when they face UWC.

Unlike UWC, TUT had to make sure of their place in this year's final four with a Round Seven win over NWU-Pukke in Potchefstroom. They then had the difficult task over beating Tshwane rivals UP-Tuks away from home to book their spot in the final.

Despite having a number of talented players at their disposal, TUT were plagued by inconsistent performances throughout the season. They started with a goalless draw at home to Tuks in Round One before smashing Walter Sisulu University for their first win of the tournament.

Their campaign then took a major dent when they were thumped 0-3 by VUT in Round Three in what was arguably their worst performance of the whole tournament.

With players like Itumeleng Mogotsi and Thabang Motau, TUT were always going to bounce back and they did just that with an emphatic 2-0 win over Wits in Johannesburg in Round Four.

They then picked up a 1-0 win over NMMU Madibaz in Round Five before long their second game of the tournament 0-1 against UWC in Cape Town in Round Six.

TUT were the dominant team in that game with UWC, but could not convert the many chances they had on the day.

Their final league game against Pukke was a straight knockout with the winner advancing to the semi-finals. However, TUT once again picked themselves up after defeat and dominated proceedings to win 2-0 in Potchefstroom.

They entered their semifinal against Tuks as underdogs given the proud history their opponents had in the play-offs. Their goalkeeper King Ndlovu turned out to be the hero on the day when he not only scored, but also saved two spot kicks in the penalty shootout. This after he kept his team in the game throughout the 90 minutes with some great saves.

TUT might have been inconsistent this year, but they just have a knack of pulling off a win when it matters.
