Swartz Aware Of Chloorkop Bound Mogotsi

UP-Tuks captain Robin Swartz is highly aware of the threat Nedbank Ke Yona team member Itumeleng Mogotsi poses to his team ahead of their massive Varsity Football semifinal encounter.

Mogotsi played against Nedbank Cup winners Mamelodi Sundowns and it was announced on Sunday that the TUT student will be heading to Chloorkop for a month-long trial with the Brazilians.

"We are well aware of the threat Itumeleng [Mogotsi] poses to us and we know him quite well because he played with us at the World Student Games. He is a fantastic player and I am really proud of everything he is achieving, having made the Nedbank Ke Yona team.

"The experience he has picked up while being part of that process and then getting to play against Mamelodi Sundowns will certainly stand him in good stead and I am sure he would share that experience and the things he has learnt with the rest of the TUT squad," Swartz said.

Tuks have been in remarkable form in the closing stages of the competition and Swartz is hopeful they can continue that momentum but knows the semifinal match will not be a walk in the park.

"It is a massive game and there is a long standing rivalry between the institutions. We have had the better of them in recent times but that does not mean it will be an easy game for us. They will be highly motivated to claim a win over us, especially seeing that we are at home but we will be up for the challenge and we are confident we can continue our wining momentum.

"We are by no means resting on our laurels and the extra preparation time we have had has certainly come in handy," he added.

The defending champions were without head coach Evangelos Vellios for the early part of the competition, as he attended coaching courses in Europe, but his return has sparked renewed vigour and brought some fresh ideas to an already professionally run team.

Swartz was in two minds about who he would like to play against in the final, should Tuks overcome TUT on Thursday.

"It is pretty tough to choose who we would like to play in the final, if we make it, because we lost to both UWC and Wits in the round-robin phase of the competition. However, we proved that we can step our game up in retribution matches, like we did against UJ in 2014 where we lost to them in the league phase but beat them in the final.

"So in terms of the team, it does not really matter who we play but we would like to reward the fans for their loyalty by giving them a home final, so in that sense, we would like Wits in the final," he stated.
