NWU To Focus On Enjoying Their Football First

Not many would have placed their money on North-West University heading the Varsity Football table after three rounds, but coach Monde Hlatshwayo is certainly enjoying the ride while it lasts.
 
NWU have a 100% record with victories over UWC (2-1), UKZN (2-0) and UL (1-0) to propel to nine points. The competition is undoubtedly going to get tougher with NWU facing last year’s losing finalist, TUT, this week.
 
Hlatshwayo, though, is not focusing on the nay-sayers predicting his team’s downfall and instead believes his team deserve credit for their start to the season.
 
“It is just a group of young players wanting to achieve. Playing with the will to succeed. There is no special reason. It is also not about the individual. It is a complete team effort. We are providing technical analysis and the boys are carrying it out on the field,” Hlatshwayo said.
 
TUT will certainly provide a stiff test for NWU this week at the Mafikeng Stadium, and Hlatshwayo believes this is due to their experienced and wily coach Bushy Maloi.
 
“It is another big game and another big effort will be required. TUT have been competing at a high level for a number of years and Bushy has been at the helm for a number of years – even when I was playing. He knows all the tricks and we will need to be ready.”
 
The NWU coach, though, doesn’t want his team to look too far ahead and wants his players to enjoy the football they are currently playing.
 
“For me it is not about for how long we can sustain it. That’s not in our hands. We can only give our best and as much we dream about it, it’s not up to us.
 
“I want my players to enjoy the experience. Enjoy playing the football they are currently playing. Football is a game to be enjoyed. For the players and the fans in the stands. As long as we are doing that, we should be okay,” Hlatshwayo added.
