Bushy Moloi And His Men On The Cusp Of Miraculous Victory

Tshwane University of Technology coach Bushy Moloi wants his team to transfer their league dominance into championship success in this week’s Varsity Football final against Wits, as they aim to win after spending an entire season on the road.

Thursday’s final will the TUT’s fourth Varsity Football showpiece match, but Moloi’s team have only been crowned champions once before. Last year they lost to UP-Tuks after dominating the league stages.

This season they have defied the odds too by qualifying for the final again despite being forced to play all their matches away from their home base at TUT.

“I am only worried about my players,” Moloi said. “We have played in three finals before and only once come out on top. So, I am not worrying if Wits haven’t played a final before. We have to come out hungry. We need to come out strong. And we need a bit of good fortune.”

Godfrey Mahlala has been sensational for TUT during Varsity Football 2018, but Moloi believes Wits would be foolish to focus on just one player in the final.

“They think if they stop man, they are going to stop TUT,” he said. “We are not a one-man team. Likewise we don’t think of stopping one man at Wits. It is a collective effort and it’s about playing together as a team. We focusing on producing an all-round team performance.”

TUT have the edge over Wits, having defeated their Johannesburg-based rivals 4-2 in an entertaining league fixture. Mahlala struck a hat-trick in the match, which has caused Wits to be on high alert ahead of the final on Thursday.
