Coach Slams UWC Players
UWC coach, Boebie Williams, has hauled his attacking players over the coals after their 1-1 draw to UL at UWC Stadium on Monday night.
The hosts failed to make their home ground advantage count and Williams has since slammed his creative midfielders and strikers, saying they became selfish after taking the lead early in the first-half.
With five points from five games and a sixth place standing, UWC still have the slightest chance of making the semi-finals. However, Williams feels this will not be possible without a team effort.
“I’m fed up. I don’t feel good about our performance. We should have won that match in the first-half already, but the attackers were showing off and doing their own thing. They seem to be playing for the awards,” he said.
The disheartened coach says he has singled out the players who he feels cost them the match and they will be dealt with in training. The team will also be working on their decision making and tactics this week.
“We’ll sort them out. We made some poor decisions in front of goal and were tactically ill-disciplined. If we don’t improve and play as a team to win our remaining matches we might as well throw in the towell,” he added.
Williams plans to bring two players into his squad as they prepare to face Varsity Football title holders UP-Tuks. He revealed that certain players will be assessed during training and could be axed for the home game against last season’s cup winners next week.
