UP-Tuks have made slight changes to their squad facing UL on Monday as they seek to regain the winning form that saw them crowned 2013 Varsity Football champions.
Tukkies will fight hard to redeem themselves after a 4-0 defeat to UJ left the title holders red-faced in front of their home fans earlier this week.
However, head coach Evangelos Vellios says a 2-0 win against Vaal University of Technology (VUT) in a USSA qualifier on Tuesday lifted UP-Tuks’ spirits and the mood in the camp is positive again.
“We keen to get back to winning ways and progress in the tournament. We lost early in last season’s competition and then on to win it, so hopefully the same happens this year,” he said.
Vellios rested some players for the VUT and revealed he will tweak his starting line-up against UL next week.
“Some of the guys were impressive so we’ll give them a go. Thabo Ndlovu comes in for Jarryd Van Den Berg and Dean Wilkinson is back in action and we’ll try and bring him in to the game from the bench,” he said.
Vellios says UP-Tuks are determined to repay the faith their home fans have in them on Monday night.
“A win could easily put us right up there on the table again, so we’ll give our all to give the supporters something to celebrate,” he said.
