Tuks Are Up Against It
Defending Varsity Football champions UP-Tuks have flattered to deceive this year and as a result, find themselves in a position that could see them not making it into the next phase of the competition.
The Pretoria students will host the team they beat in last year's final, NMMU Madibaz, but know they will be up against a much improved PE side who will come into the game with plenty of momentum and confidence.
Coach Evangelos Vellios is holding his breathe over the fitness of captain Robin Swartz who has been on the road to recovery since picking up an injury during their match against NWU-Mafikeng.
Another slight concern for Tuks is goalkeeper Nicholas Stothard who needed stitches after the UWC game after got on the wrong end of a hard challenge.
"Hopefully Robin has recovered from his injury. We will be assessing him and make a decision closer to the game. Nicholas picked up a knock and needed stitches but he should be fine and will be available," he said.
Vellios said he knows many people have already written his side off and he loves that, as he now has a chance to prove them wrong.
"It's a quarterfinal - win and go through, lose and go home. It's that simple," he added.
Tuks will be doing everything they can to pick up maximum points at home against a determined Madibaz side who will want to get revenge for last year's defeat.
