Vellios: No Stopping Us Now
UP-Tuks coach, Evangelos Vellios, said it will be tough to stop his team from retaining their title after they demolished NMMU Madibaz 4-0 in the final round of Varsity Football.
The Pretoria students will now make the trip to Mafikeng to take on NWU in the first semifinal which will prove to be a great test of character in front of thousands of football crazy fans.
"We needed the win to give us a boost and now it's going to be very hard to stop us going all the way," he said.
Vellios was happy with his side's performance as they proved why they are the defending champions and have reached their first objective of making it into the semifinals.
Tuks were impressive in taking the game to their opponents but showed incredible composure and maturity when they were under pressure in their defensive zones.
"I'm pleased we managed to keep a cleansheet. The defence held their nerve when they were under pressure but as a whole, the team did an incredible job," he added.
The Pretoria students will make the trip to the North West and have the chance to play in front of a capacity crowd which Vellios believes is an ideal chance for each player to prove themselves.
"It's not often you get to play in front of thousands of supporters. It's going to be a great test for all of us, myself included," he stated.
Vellios has always preached about peaking at the right time and feels his team has found their form and there will be "no more pain" in the tournament for their loyal supporters.
