Mabandla Keen To Lift Kovsies
UFS-Kovsies utility player, Unathi Mabandla, feels his inclusion in the team’s starting line-up will boost their chances of reaching the Varsity Football semi-finals.
Mabandla hopes he will be included in his team’s starting line-up when they take on UCT in Cape Town next week after coming on as a substitute in their 4-0 defeat to NMMU-Madibaz earlier this week. The versatile midfielder came on late when his team where already down by four goals.
Although he failed to make an impact in that match, Mabandla feels he still has a lot to offer Kovsies as they are still in the hunt for a place in the semi-finals.
“I hope to start against UCT because the tournament is at a crucial stage now. I’m the guy who keeps the players relaxed in tense situations and gets them to focus when it’s needed.
“I’m a team player and the next few matches will be all about us playing as a team, helping each other and producing good results,” he said.
Mabandla knows their success will depend on the top four teams losing one or two matches, but says all UFS can do is make sure they bag the wins.
“It’s two games, so no matter what the other teams do, we must make sure we win our matches. As long as we do our best we can always build on those results for next season,” he said.
Kovsies travel to Cape Town next week for the UCT clash before taking on NWU in Free State the week thereafter.
