Kovsies’ Time To Shine
UFS-Kovsies will enter uncharterd territory when they travel to Johannesburg to take on log leaders UJ in the second semifinal of the Varsity Football tournament.
The sides previously played in a 2-2 draw when they met in the fourth round of the competition in Bloemfontein.
Coach Godfrey Tenoff acknowledged UJ's success but stated that it was time for his team to put an end to that.
"UJ have been really impressive but it's our time now. We need to put an end to their run," he said.
Tenoff gave his squad some time off to recharge their batteries before starting preparations for the encounter which he feels is going to be more a mental challenge than a physical one.
Kovsies have put in massive performances on their way to the knockout phase, none more so than a critical 1-1 draw with NWU in the previous round which was enough for them to end fourth on the log.
"We have been fortunate that the senior players have guided the younger ones throughout the tournament and they will continue to do so this week. Another great thing for us is that the younger players have been our most creative and have been given the opportunity to play their natural game," he added.
The Bloem students will be relying on their USSA semifinal experience to help achieve the victory in Joburg against the unbeaten UJ.
