Kovsies Tactics Please Tenoff
UFS-Kovsies coach, Godfrey Tenoff, has lauded his players for sticking to his tactics in their 1-1 draw to NWU in Bloemfontein on Monday night.
Kovsies secured a place in the Varsity Football semi-finals after holding off an on-form NWU team. The home team scored first, but NWU turned up the heat in the second half and managed to score an equaliser.
The hosts did well to thwart their rampant visitors’ attacks and held on to see themselves through to the last four of the competition after narrowly losing out last season when they finished fifth.
Tenoff said, “I’m quite happy with my players. They played really well and it feels good to get into the semi-finals.
“The game started really well for us but after scoring the goal we took our foot off the gas and they capitalised on that.”
The inspirational coach says he is also happy his team stuck to what they practiced last week in preparation for the clash.
“I knew they would throw players forward, but I didn’t want them to take over the game, so we tried to close them down and break up the play.
“It’s good to progress and the competition is way more competitive this year. I think the teams and players know what at stake, so all the teams go all out to win,” he added.
Tenoff explained that UFS are looking forward to playing at Bunting Road Sports Complex against UJ next. The coach says the big pitch will give his team a chance to assert their dominance over their hosts.
