Conditions Favoured Kovsies

Having played UWC in Cape Town a few weeks ago, Kovsies easily adapted to the tricky weather conditions to overcome a determined UCT 2-0 on The Green Mile.

Caretaker coach Quinton Moditwane was happy with his side's performance after they bounced back from a humbling 4-0 defeat at the hands of NMMU Madibaz.

It was essential for the Bloemfontein students to leave the Cape with maximum points as it has kept them in the running to gain entry into the semifinal stage of the competition.

"They boys did very well. It was very important for us to put in a good performance following our loss at home to NMMU. In those conditions, we will take the points and run," he said.

Cape Town greeted Kovsies with similar conditions to that they faced when they played UWC in Round Three of the tournament which Moditwana believes helped the team.

"When we saw the weather conditions, I told the team they played in similar conditions against UWC. So there was no need to panic about the weather, we just went out and stuck to our game plan," he added.

Kovsies will welcome back their coach Godfrey Tenoff as they prepare for a do-or-die clash with second-placed NWU-Mafikeng.

Tenoff returns from Brazil where he mentored the South African team for the intellectually impaired.

His return will certainly lift the camp's spirit more and provide them with extra motivation and hunger to pull off an upset and get a semifinal spot.

Moditwane has made it clear that his side will have one thing in mind when they host the unbeaten NWU-Mafikeng in the final round of Varsity Football.

"Our next match is a must win. A draw won't be enough. We know what we need to do and that is to win," he said.
