Warriors Start Mind Games
The Green Mile of UCT will be buzz of excitement as they prepare for arguably their biggest match of the Varsity Football campaign.
The Warriors will host fellow Cape side UWC in the final round of the tournament with bragging rights on their mind.
UCT captain Greg Bryer said his team is fully focused to deny their opponents a chance of making the next phase of the competition.
"There's a lot at stake. We're playing for pride and they're playing for a chance of getting into the semifinals but they won't get there, not if we have anything to do about it," he said.
Bryer said the fixture between the sides shares some similarity to the rivalry shared between Ikey Tiger and Maties on the rugby field.
"There's definitely a rivalry between us. It's the same between Ikeys and Maties, although ours is not as intense. Those rugby guys are on a different level," he added.
The captain believes his coach Rowan Hendricks would be making some changes to the starting XI as this has been the norm since the start of the competition.
"I don't know what the makeup of the squad will be like but if we look at all the games, the squad has always been rotated. It's not been the same for two consecutive games," he stated.
Bryer hopes the UCT crowd comes out in their numbers to witness an open and attacking game as both teams have their own agenda heading into it.
