PSL Prosecutor Gives Sirino Update

Months after he was charged with two counts of assault, Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Gaston Sirino is closer to finally learning his fate.

The Premier Soccer League disciplinary committee hauled the Uruguayan over the coals for misconduct after he struck SuperSport United players Clayton Daniels and captain Dean Furman when the two sides faced off in the second leg of their MTN8 semi-final fixture as far back as September 18 last year.

Sirino, who has since pleaded not guilty, was only shown a yellow card by referee Eugen Mdluli, but the disciplinary committee subsequently brought charges of assault against Sirino and the player could spend time on the sidelines.

A ruling was expected before the Christmas break, however, PSL prosecutor Nande Becker has now told the Siya crew that the festive period is in fact what delayed the outcome.

“The panel will be sitting tonight (Tuesday), and if there is a ruling it will be communicated. We’ve been held back by the December holidays because things slow down for most lawyers between December 15 and January 16. I am not even sure we will have the same panel,” Becker explained.
