Following Orlando Pirates’ 3-0 win over arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs in their MTN8 semi-final match on Saturday, it was announced that Bucs head coach Josef Zinnbauer would be leaving the country to return home to Germany.
The Soweto giants confirmed that the coach was granted leave to return home, though the club would not divulge any information except to say that the coach’s son was hospitalised, out of respect for the mentor and his family.
The club did however indicate that the coach would be back soon.
Meanwhile, reports in Germany have indicated that Zinnbauer’s son was recently involved in a horrific car accident.
“The wreck of a black Skoda Octavia station wagon (is) under a truck trailer. A serious accident happened on Münchener Strasse in Nuremberg on October 23. The 24-year-old Skoda driver is in mortal danger. It is the son of Joe Zinnbauer (50). The ex-HSV coach (now in South Africa with Orlando Pirates) is very worried about Fabio! Fabio is seriously injured and is in a coma. The police are investigating. How it came to the horror crash at 1 pm has not yet been clarified,” German publication Bild reports.
