Kaizer Chiefs

New Addition To Chiefs Hierarchy

Kaizer Chiefs have made a long awaited addition at the club, though it’s not on the pitch but the administration side of things with an eye on the future.

On Tuesday night, Kaizer Motaung Jr confirmed that he’d begun working at the club having completed his financial management degree and looking to merge the two worlds of football and business into one.

He doesn’t yet have an official title, but his role is to work in the commercial and financial division at Naturena.

“For me transitioning into the next phase of football was the next phase that was very important. I have been around individuals in the game that have changed history for this team, and once you understand the football, then you learn that the business side is also what keeps the game going. I was very conscious of that, hence I always had my degree on hand because at home education was very important,” he said in an interview on SuperSport TV.

The 38-year-old son of chairman Kaizer Motaung Sr, played as a striker for Amakhosi and retired six years ago after more than a 100 games and 30 goals for the Glamour Boys to begin working his way into being part of the club’s hierarchy.

“The team has a programme that pays for your studies if you want to, there is that option – you can go do a diploma or a degree, and that’s something that the guys need to grab a hold of,” said the father of two.

“Obviously I had the insights to learn from people like our football manager Bobby Motaung, Jessica (Motaung), who is heading up the marketing and Kemiso (Motaung) heading up digital and of course our chairman – if you don’t learn from people like that, then you have a problem. This was a natural progression for me, I even retired in the middle of the season. This is why I chose financial management (as a degree) because it has a lot of principles that links both the football and finance aspect.”
